We escort Vethandra across the plains. Back in Valkir City, one of Eryen's people contacts us and says to not return yet as a civil war has broken out in Corosaruth. We decide we should travel some more and will try to contact him again in about 2 months to see if its safe to go back.
But the Sahaguin are still after us; we are being followed by (an easily-dispatched) drowned corpse. We travel to the sea to prompt a meeting to confront them (by Bel wading into the sea to see if the hex on her calf activates to let them know where we are. It works. In a few days we talk to a high-ranking Sahaguin (with another drowned corpse translating) and learn that the Master wants our mother's dagger. It cannot describe the Master to us. The Master cannot be located. They want the dagger to give it to the Master. The Master perceives our mother's dagger as a symbol of rebellion. The Master will hunt us until we give up the dagger. We tell the Sahaguin that we can't give up the dagger right now, regardless.
We start traveling and at a campsite we find a tarnished, buried/lost silver-plated trencher with the following symbol of a bird piercing and carrying a snake. We inquire about returning it and learn that it's the symbol of the family Awfster, and they died out years and years ago after they “went crazy” and moved closer to the whirlpool to worship it; later they declared war against Sylareth and started using this crest.
We get a fisherman to give us a lift from East Port to Sylareth and are dropped off on a sand bar that is used as a meeting point for trade.
